Subject Choices

All Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners follow a curriculum comprising the following Learning Areas :

  1.   English Home Language
  2. Afrikaans First Additional language
  3. German OR Xhosa  as a Second Additional Language
  4. Mathematics
  5. Social Sciences (SS) : A History and Geography component
  6. Natural Sciences (NS)
  7. Economic and Management Sciences (EMS)
  8. Design and Technology (DT)
  9. Creative Arts
  10. Life Orientation


If students have selected the Music option on their admission form for Grade 8. They must have studied Music  at primary school. The prospective Music students will do Music as a subject in place of a second additional language. The prospective students who will select music as an option must complete the grade 8-12 syllabi.


Learners from Grades 10 to 12 follow an academic programme consisting of the following compulsory subjects :

English Home Language

Afrikaans Additional Language


Life Orientation 

Life Science

The remaining two subjects are chosen from the following :

Physical Science





Art OR Music


Selection to the Art stream at Grade 10 level requires the student to submit art works/ a portfolio that shows proficiency in Art.

Selection to the Physical Science stream requires the student to show proficiency both in Mathematics and the Physical Science component of Natural Science at a Grade 9 level.

Selection to the Accounting stream requires all Grade 9 students to write a Means Test in the third term, and selection is based on performance in this Means Test.


Limitations placed on teacher availability mean that not all learners are able to do their first choice subjects, though we aim to accommodate them as far as humanly possible.. Where selections have to made they are based on proficiency / academic criteria.
